Enugu State Government demolished shops in Old-Park Market

The Enugu State government has recently demolished shops at the Old – Park market without first relocating the traders and any temporal or permanent site. It's just amazing how some of our governors act as if they have never been poor!!!

This is how Vanguard reports it : ENUGU — DESPITE a subsisting order of an Enugu State High Court, restraining Enugu State Government from demolishing stalls at the Old Park Market in Enugu metropolis without first relocating the 890 affected traders, the state government has pulled down stalls in the market.

Apart from the statutory shop owners in the market, no fewer than 2,000 other traders doing business in the market are to be displaced as the state government had served a fresh eviction notice to enable it demolish the entire structures in the market with effect from today.

In the first phase of the demolition exercise carried out under the supervision of Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA, about 66 stalls were

Mercy or Grace - Choose

Love is an attitude, it’s is an action word, It is an expression - either by giving expression or as a response to receiving of love or kindness. Love is the greatest message sent through the gospel. God wants us to love the same way he loved us. 

What's the difference between MERCY and GRACE

Mercy is when you take away deserved punishment from people. Grace is when you extend favor to that same person

**If your friend back-stabs you, says things that are untrue about you and refused to help you when you were down, and you find out and confront him, he apologizes and you forgive him - you've shown Mercy. If you go ahead and extend a helping hand or favor to him - then that's Grace. In mercy you just forgive, but in Grace, you go beyond forgiveness and show kindness and favor to that same man person.

As hard as it may sound, try and go past Mercy to showing Grace. It can be hard, I know but just try.

Every Heart has an Original Key that can Unlock it

A man I know, Andy Qwas wrote something that caught my attention and I thought I should share it with you:

They throw away their own key & leave just the spare with their Lover. This is WHY when they get hurt, they can't get back in to fix things because to hurt someone is like scattering a well arranged room. That person entered with the spare & turned your house upside down. But if you had the original Key, you can always enter in to re-arrange your house the way you want it. But because most people have lost their own key, they find it very difficult to move on after a hurt. 

Warning: Never throw away your own key (the power to your own happiness) so the day your partner decides to mess up your well arranged house, (ie, hurt you really bad), all you need to do is simply use your spare to open it, arrange your house as you want it, change the lock and be happy again.

Flood in Bauchi

Just wondering and thinking aloud to myself. Is it that nothing can be done about the flooding in different part of the country OR is it that both our Federal and State Government have vehemently refused to do something. Just recently,  about seven people died in three local government areas of Bauchi State because of a heavy rain. It is said that property worth over 100 million naira was destroyed in the flood

It was also recorded that about 2, 217 farmlands were destroyed by the water and about 100 persons have been displaced from their homes

Three persons die as an NNPC Tanker Explodes

Three people have died in Ibadan, Oyo State, with five others injured from burns when a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) petrol tanker trying to offload fuel suddenly exploded and caught fire at Orogun Junction on Ojoo Expressway. 

This is how The Sun Newspapers reports it:

The three victims were said to have been burnt to death as the fuel flew into the area and exploded, it burnt property and human beings found along its path. Two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and about eight shops in the area were also torched by the raging inferno. The situation got out of hands when the state’s fire service that arrived at the scene ran out of water and had to wait for another vehicle for replenishment.

Tobacco Control Nigeria is a public health and policy change campaign project using Social Media to advance tobacco control and support the passage of a comprehensive Tobacco Control (TC) law compliant with the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

On Saturday August 17th 2013, with the use of dance and drama performed by university students and a music artist named Vocal Slender, the group began the launch activities of its social media campaign holding crowds bound with its message on the streets of Ajegunle in Lagos. The launch activities continued on Monday 19^th August 2013 with quiz, competitions and giveaways on twitter and Facebook.

Governor Suntai of Taraba State sends letter to the State House of Assemly

Senior lawyer and political activist, Femi Falana (SAN), yesterday sent a petition to the Inspector General of Police demanding a detailed investigation of the letter purportedly sent to the Taraba State House of Assembly by Governor Danbaba Suntai yesterday indicating he is ready to resume office.           

Governor Suntai returned to Nigeria on Sunday after 10 months away receiving treatment and rehabilitation for serious brain injuries he received when an aircraft he was piloting crashed in October 2012.  Reports say he appeared bewildered and uncoordinated as he arrived, needing help and not speaking.


Mr. Falana noted that barely one day after his return, a letter was delivered to the House declaring the governor’s fitness and readiness for work without affording the public a copy of his medical report of mental and physical fitness.        

“We therefore urge you in the interest of the people of Taraba State and Nigeria as a whole to use your good offices to cause a detailed investigation to confirm the authenticity of the letter of intention sent by the Governor to the House of Assembly as there are several allegations within and outside Taraba State that the letter of intention may have been forged by the governor’s handlers,” the letter said.      

The lawyer indicated he will go to court to compel the IGP to fulfill his constitutional duty if he does not accede to the demand within three days, including yesterday.

Remembering Sam Okwaraji

In August of 1989, while he was playing for Nigeria in a 2nd round World Cup Qualifier match (Group C, Italia World Cup) against Angola, Samuel Okwaraji slumped on the pitch and died immediately. It was 77 minutes into the match. Right there, in front of about 20,000 Nigerians at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, the Green Eagles were thrown into disarray while the Palancas Negras of Angola forgot the competition and joined in the futile attempts to revive him.

His body was then taken to the National Stadium Clinic where he was covered up, and

It amazing how ladies fall for the same lies over and over again. The guy comes and tell you how you are the apple of his eyes, the mosquito in his cupboard, and all those things, and you believe him. The he tells you if you love him, have sex with him and you agree and the boooommm you get pregnant and he disappears or he tells you his not responsible for it. You've seen it happen to different ladies, why are you still letting him fool you. She that has ear, let him hear what the spirit is saying.

An NGO CARRIES OUT ILLICIT DRUG CAMPAIGN IN PRISONS ACROSS CROSS RIVER STATE

Drug Abuse Campaign

An NGO known as PRAWA has carried out drug seminars across prisons in six locations in Cross River state. This is part of Prawa’s concerted efforts in eliminating some causes of crime in the society. The drug seminar at Cross River State Prisons which held from the 2^nd to the 5^th of July began with a courtesy  visit to the Comptroller of Prisons by the PRAWA team lead by the Executive Director, Dr. Uju Agomoh.

At Calabar Prisons, the seminar held at the prison chapel with the public address system connected to the cell blocks in the prison yard. The NGO's program officer, Pharm. Nonso Maduka delivered the lecture on illicit drugs and drug abuse, highlighting the social, health and economical dangers of drug abuse with specific interest in alcohol, cigarette and marijuana. He talked about the ramified implications of taking these drugs saying that it is a gateway to crime and addiction to higher classes of illicit drugs. At the end of his lectures, 128 out of the 702 in attendance made a commitment to quit drugs.

This drug campaign was carried out in other prisons located at Adim and Obubura on the 3^rd of July and Ikom, Obudu, and Ogoja on the 4^th with more than half of the inmates who were in attendance making a commitment to quit smoking.

The illicit drug campaign was a monumental success. Two weeks after the seminar, reports were sent to PRAWA from one of the prisons about a certain inmate who was a notorious drug addict, who now, is leading a crusade of no smoking in his cell block.
